Synopsis: The physiology of the major body systems during exercise with focus on the respiratory, cardiovascular and skeletal muscle systems. These are fundamental to the delivery and utilisation of oxygen and, as a result, determine our aerobic capacity. Each system will be discussed in terms of its response to an acute exercise bout as well as its ability to adapt to chronic exercise training. Production and use of energy in skeletal muscle and muscle fatigue. The relative role of each system in limiting performance.
