Synopsis: Introduction to the theories of Freud and Jung. Key concepts of Freud0s psychoanalysis including the unconscious and its role in mental life, sexual theory and the structure of the personality, the interpretation of dreams, the critique of civilisation and religion. Jung0s understanding of the personal and collective unconscious, dreams, archetypes and symbols, the structure of the psyche, psychological types, modern man and religion.

Assessment: Two class papers (1000 words each): 20% + Essay (3000 words): 60% + A commentary under examination conditions (1 hour/1000 words): 20%
