Intergenerational tyrannies: Gender, age and culture

Synopsis: The subject examines gender, age, ethnicity, and culture and how they shape social status, ideas about women, and cultural interactions. By exemplifying the experiences and social position of older people in a variety of communities, it considers how women and men experience aging differently, explores how ageism can intensify adaptations to the aging process, how aging can be experienced in diverse ways in different cultures, and analyses and compares intergenerational confrontations and collaborations across cultures.

Assessment: Short exercise (2,000 word interview): 20% + Short exercise (2,000 word policy analysis): 20% + Long essay and oral presentation (5,000 words): 60%
