Vineyard operations for quality wine production

6 points + Second semester + Equivalent of three 1-hour lectures/week, 1-hour tutorial/week, and attendance at two 3-day workshops (these are compulsory for distance education students) + Peninsula/Distance + Prerequisites: ASC1717 (or recognised industrial experience)

Synopsis: The subject covers the pattern and trends of the viticulture industry in Australia and overseas; vineyard establishment and design; crop management; integrated pest and disease management; techniques for improving grape quality through canopy configuration and irrigation; the assessment of fruit maturity and yield estimation; comparative management strategies as seen through the annual work program.

Assessment: Written examination (3 hours): 50% + Written assignment (4000 words): 30% + Practical reports (2 reports): 10 % + Field work report (1500 words): 10%
