This course is designed to enhance and develop the knowledge and skills of accounting graduates in public practice, industry and academia. The degree encompasses studies at an advanced level in financial and managerial accounting, auditing, corporate and international finance and investments, and electives chosen from masters-level subjects offered in banking, marketing and management. Students attain an advanced conceptual understanding of the fields of accounting and finance, complemented by a wide range of practical applications and case studies. Students also gain insight into research methodologies and techniques which extend and support their learning and expose them to the contemporary issues and problems confronting modern accountants and finance specialists.
Applicants need to have completed, with an average grade of credit or above, an honours degree in a relevant discipline, or the Postgraduate Diploma in Advanced Accounting or the Postgraduate Diploma in Financial Management, or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution. Students who have completed the Master of Practising Accounting may also apply for admission to this masters degree. Candidates may be eligible for a maximum of four credit exemptions for subjects considered to be equivalent to particular subjects in the course of study. This is a fee-paying course. Candidates should consult the Department of Accounting and Finance as to the 2000 course fee. Course fees are set and reviewed annually and are therefore subject to change.
