This
course has been especially designed to provide a national graduate-level course
tailored specifically to the retail industry. It is suitable for graduates from
other disciplines who are established in retail careers. The objectives of the
course focus on four key areas of study:
(a) marketing management processes as they relate to retail business
applications
(b) strategic issues facing industry leaders in running a successful
retail enterprise
(c) strategic management issues resulting from developments in technology
applicable to the retail industry
(d) application of consumer behaviour theory to the development of retail
marketing strategies.
This course is recognised by the Australian Retailers Association.
Applicants should have completed an undergraduate degree other than in marketing/retail and have at least two years of relevant level retail management experience. Applicants without a first degree but with at least six years of middle to senior level retail management experience should refer to the course entry on the Executive Certificate in Retail Business.
Applicants will need to submit a personal professional profile outlining their previous tertiary study, retail management experience and professional referees in addition to the application for admission form.
This course is a one year part-time distance education program of study comprising four subjects. Students undertake two core subjects each semester as set out below.
The course progression is designed to introduce students to marketing and management principles and concepts in the first semester, then to build on those two subjects with the consumer behaviour and technological business applications subjects in second semester. The course content and assessment will relate to workplace applications in retail business.
Generally a combination of assignments and a final examination.
Provision existsfor credit to be granted in some circumstances for subjects taken in a graduate-level course in marketing or management commenced elsewhere. Where the background of the student indicates that the completion of an elective rather than a prescribed subject would be of greater educational value, the course director can approve a substitute subject.
