Aims

The Graduate Certificate in Regional Economic Development provides an opportunity for executive and middle level managers employed with businesses and state and local government institutions to gain formal qualifications and increase their knowledge in the economic issues of regional economic development and policy as well as acounting, management and banking.

Entry requirements

An applicant for admission to candidature must have a pass degree or equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution. A key selection criterion will be an assessment of whether the applicant possesses the experience and ability to successfully complete the course.
Applicants should note that, subject to demand, there may be two intakes per year to this course, one to commence in first semester, and the second to commence in second semester.

PC requirement

Access to an IBM-compatible computer is essential for the use of wordprocessing and other software packages.

Attendance

Weekend schools are run three times each semester for many of the graduate subjects. Attendance is optional for those students wishing to attend.

Course structure

The Graduate Certificate in Regional and Economic Development is awarded on successfully completing four (4) graduate-level subjects normally taken over one year of study as follows;

Year one

First semester
Second semester

Assessment

Assessment will be a combination of assignments and final examination for each subject. Generally a pass is required in the final examination.

Credits/exemptions

Applicants who have completed graduate-level subjects at a recognised tertiary institution, within the last five years, which are similar in content to a subject forming part of the course of study may apply for a credit exemption to a maximum of 50 per cent of the course.
