The following are representative examples of the electives
which will be offered:
1 MRI advanced physics: MRA and the origin of artifacts in MRI.
Comparison between the differentiation of motion by time of flight and phase
contrast angiography. Principles of quantification of phase contrast
angiography. The origin and expression of machine-dependent signal processing
and patient-related artifacts.
2 Mammography: biopsy techniques; additional projections;
epidemiology; radiologic pathology.
3 Advanced sonographic methods: The instrumental basis of power
Doppler, clinical utility of power Doppler. Vascular imaging with ultra-high
resolution ultrasound machines that use both phase and amplitude based
ultrasound signals. The instrumentation of 3D ultrasound.
4 Total Quality Management (TQM) in health practices. The evolution
of TQM practice. Denning and Crosby processes for TQM. Quality as conformance
to requirements. The zero defect model. Processes to prevent non-conformance in
health practice. Cycle of continuous improvement. Immediate, intermediate and
ultimate customers in health service provision.
5 Advanced radiobiology: the radiographer as dosimetrist. X-ray
dose calculation in radiography. Dose calculation in mammography. Dose
minimisation procedures.
6 Integrated PACS environments and teleradiology. Diagnostic
enhancements by virtue of inter-modality image registration and remote image
analysis.
