Objectives On completion of the subject, the students are expected to demonstrate advanced health assessment skills related to sexual and reproductive health nursing; demonstrate a high level of knowledge in regard to the therapeutic options available to a varied clientele seeking assistance with a range of sexual and reproductive wellness/illness states; demonstrate a knowledge of clinical pathology and laboratory diagnostics for a range of sexual and reproductive wellness/illness states; demonstrate competence in interpretation of clinical data; apply health assessment skills to facilitate differential nursing diagnosis for a range of sexual and reproductive wellness/illness states; demonstrate competence in the performance of specific skills necessary for clinical practice in sexual and reproductive nursing; develop individualised case management plans; meet the health education needs of clients.

Synopsis This subject is designed to provide nurses with the opportunity to undertake specialist studies in sexual and reproductive nursing. The subject explores a range of the most prevalent sexual and reproductive health issues for both gender groups within a life span developmental framework. The role of the nurse in the management and care of these clients is applied to each wellness/illness state described. Demonstrated competence in the performance of specific practice skills necessary for clinical expertise in sexual and reproductive nursing is an integral component of this subject.
