Health of women and children

Dr W Holmes

2 hours per week over 14 weeks

Synopsis This subject has been introduced to provide an overview of the major health issues and priority public health programs for women and children in developing countries, including reproductive health and the context of gender development. It will enable students to analyse the key determinants of health in women and children in the context of underprivileged communities; to identify the major factors affecting population trends; and to plan, implement, and evaluate effective programs to promote health among women and children.

Assessment Students will be provided with a range of scenarios related to women's and children's health in developing countries. They will be asked to analyse the problem, conduct a relevant literature search, and write a paper that will include the key program design elements required to address the selected problem. Assessment will be based on an oral presentation and a written report (15 to 20 pages).
