Dr P Deutschmann

2 hours per week over 14 weeks

Synopsis This subject has been introduced to provide sound principles of health policy development and program management to the economic, cultural, and political context, and the real public health needs of communities in developing countries. It will provide an overview of the history, principles and practice of primary health care (PHC) in developing countries, as well as the key elements, developmental context and practical applications of project design, implementation and evaluation.

Assessment A formal health project design document (15 to 20 pages in length) will be prepared and submitted by each student. The project will encompass a health problem area relevant to developing countries, and the document will include verifiable project evaluation indicators. The assessment will be based on an oral presentation describing the project design and the written document.
