Synopsis This subject aims to provide students with an understanding of common biological hazards in the occupational and general environments. An introduction to microbiology, food borne biological hazards (food poisoning), animal hazards (animal, reptile and insect bites), zoonoses, air borne biological hazards (Legionnaire's disease, Pontiac fever, humidifier fever), water borne biological hazards (cyanobacteria, cholera, typhoid), blood borne biological hazards (AIDS, hepatitis) and microbiological safety in laboratories will be covered.
Assessment Pre-test: 20% · Assignment: 40% · Final examination: 40%
