Objectives On completion of this subject, the student
is expected to assess the specific health needs of an individual and group in
relation to maximising their health potential; develop an approach to empower
both clients and their carers to determine their goals for health and wellness;
plan, implement and evaluate health promotion programs involving clients and/or
carers as partners in care; design innovative and creative strategies to meet
the educational needs of clients, families and health care organisations in
relation to aged care; critically examine theoretical approaches to health
promotion and education; and develop an understanding of the advantages of
multidisciplinary team planning for the needs of older people in all health
care settings.
Synopsis The subject continues the study of gerontic nursing practice
with particular emphasis on health promotion, the prevention of the common
illnesses and conditions of living associated with ageing.
