Objectives Following successful completion of this subject, it is expected that students will be able to discuss the historical development of the 'public health' movement, drawing upon the evolution of nursing as a profession and the changing conceptualisation of 'health' within society and describe selected epidemiological concepts, principles and methods and their application to the implementation of primary health care through community health nursing practice.

Synopsis This subject provides the student with knowledge and skills with broader ecological perspective, primary health care approach and the use of qualitative and epidemiological methods in the promotion of population health within the 'new public health' framework.

Assessment Two assignments: 40% and 60%
