Objectives Clinically based learning activities are expected to enable students to demonstrate preoperative education and assessment of patients undergoing specialised surgery; cognitive and psychomotor skills relating to surgical intervention in order to provide nursing support and assistance during the intraoperative phase of orthopaedic, plastic and neuro surgery; postoperative assessment, evaluation, and discharge planning for these patients.
Synopsis Utilising clinically focussed learning packages, the student will develop knowledge and skills in a variety of surgical specialties. The subject will include orthopaedic, plastic and neuro surgical intervention in adults and children. Clinical placements allow for application and consolidation of concepts learnt.
Assessment Case study, oral examination and by clinical performance standards.
