Objectives Clinically based learning activities are expected to enable students to demonstrate preoperative education and assessment of patients undergoing specialised surgery; cognitive and psychomotor skills relating to surgical intervention in order to provide nursing support and assistance during the intraoperative phase of cardiac, vascular, thoracic, renal, 'ear, nose and throat' and ophthalmic surgery; postoperative assessment, evaluation and discharge planning for these patients.
Synopsis Utilising clinically focused learning packages, the student will develop knowledge and skills in a variety of surgical specialties. The subject will include cardiac, vascular, thoracic, renal, 'ear, nose and throat' (ENT) and ophthalmic surgical intervention in adults and children. Clinical placements allow for application and consolidation of concepts learnt.
