Critical care concepts 1

Objectives Through a variety of in-class, clinically based and student-driven activities, this subject should enable students to utilise specific health assessment skills in collecting data about patients's health breakdown process; apply pathophysiological concepts to a systematic framework in order to organise, analyse and synthesise data within a variety of acute critical care settings; conduct nursing assessments appropriate to the patient in an acute situation; identify and implement fundamental nursing therapies appropriate to the patient situation/condition in the acute hospital environment; develop skills in utilisation of technical equipment commonly found in the acute hospital environment; conduct appropriate nursing assessment and delivery of therapies to health breakdown processes.

Synopsis This subject focuses on the principles and practices necessary to provide nursing care to patients experiencing serious illness in acute or critical care settings. The student will develop advanced health assessment skills and a knowledge of the diagnostic and nursing therapeutic interventions essential in caring for patients within highly technological environments.
