Mental health of the elderly

Objectives The objectives are that students should have gained a basic background in geriatric mental health, developed a knowledge of recent developments in this area and understanding of treatment and management issues, and become familiar with best practice approaches to service delivery. Students will learn how to conduct a clinical mental health assessment interview and produce a management plan.

Synopsis This subject covers dementia, depression, delirium, and delusional disorders, as well as recent developments in these areas and how appropriate services are delivered. Other major areas are treatment and management issues of the elderly. This subject will be taught using computer-mediated communication, video tapes, video conferencing, residential schools and mailed out text-based materials, as well as on-campus seminars and tutorials.
