Objectives On completion of this subject students should (1) have a comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of migration law; (2) have the ability to apply their understanding to specify tasks, eg to advise individuals as to their options for making applications; (3) be equipped to deal with any changes to the legislative scheme governing migration law; (4) appreciate contemporary issues in migration law particularly in relation to judicial review issues; and (5) have developed the ability to evaluate critically the legislative scheme.

Synopsis Constitutional and historical perspectives. The legislative framework effected by the Migration Reform Act 1992 including applications on economic and family grounds, options for unlawful non-citizens, refugees, the merits review system and a judicial review. Options for reform.

Assessment Research paper (5000 words): 50% - Take-home examination: 40% - Class participation: 10%
