Multimedia applications on the Web

6 points - 4 hours per week - Second semester - Caulfield - Prerequisite: SFT3000 or equivalent

Objectives On completion of this subject, students will have an understanding of the issues involved with programming applications executing across distributed heterogenous networks like the World Wide Web. This understanding will be supplemented with practical skills in the Java programming languages.

Synopsis The focus of this subject is on providing an understanding of the theoretical and implementation principles of developing multimedia Web applications. The students will study these techniques as implemented in the Java programming language and its ability to build multimedia applications for the World Wide Web. Events and threads in Applets and other issues important to WWW programming such as security and client-server communication will be covered. The students will gain an understanding of the multimedia technology and how it relates to other key technologies, and be aware of multimedia and intellectual property rights, and standards.

Assessment Assignments: 70% - Essay and presentation: 30%
