Objectives At the completion of this subject, students should know the main tasks required in the multimedia system development process and the participants who are involved in that process; they should understand how the contributions of these participants are brought together to create a multimedia system; they should have the skills to specify an appropriate development process to meet the needs of a given problem.
Synopsis This subject aims to provide students with a broad understanding of the nature of multimedia systems and the multimedia systems development process. In doing so, it brings together three key themes: the activities involved in the systems development process; the tasks and responsibilities of the participants in the process, and the attributes and competencies which are needed in order to carry out these tasks successfully. The subject examines the characteristics of multimedia systems and their implications for the development process required to build them. The broad outline of the development process is then used to establish a more detailed picture of the tasks involved in carrying out and managing the development of a multimedia system. The range of participants who may be needed to contribute to the process is discussed, and their roles and responsibilities are described.
