Objectives This subject provides students with an introduction to key basic concepts in information, information systems, the information systems development process and the role of the systems analyst in system development. It provides the foundation on which other subjects in the information systems sequence are built.

Synopsis The subject has five modules covering the following main topics: an introduction to the nature of information and systems, and their use in business to meet information needs; an introduction to the systems development lifecycle as a structured approach to systems development; an introduction to the fundamental techniques of analysis and design - data gathering, modelling and presentation of information; an introduction to the use of information systems in organisations;an introduction to the basic technological infrastructure used in information systems.

Assessment Examination: 60% - Assignments and unit tests: 40%
