Objectives Upon successful completion of this subject, students should be able to assess current developments in curriculum areas in relation to the basis of curriculum theory; identify the role of educational research in curriculum development; assess the role of the teacher librarian as a resource in the curriculum development process; analyse the role and implementation of print and non-print resources in developing, supporting and extending the school curriculum; evaluate curriculum resources; and develop an understanding of how information skills enhance learning and help facilitate critical thinking skills.
Synopsis This subject aims to assess current developments in curriculum areas in relation to the basis of curriculum theory. Topics covered include the role of educational research in curriculum development; the role of the teacher librarian as a resource in the process of curriculum development; the role of print and non-print resources in developing, supporting, and extending the school curriculum; and the evaluation of curriculum resources. The subject is taught by lectures and tutorials. Study guides and readings are provided.
