Objectives After completing this subject students should understand the need for project management; understand the requirements for 'successful' project management; and be able to use techniques and tools to control and manage projects.

Synopsis Project planning: importance of project planning and control, problems in system development projects, planning aids such as CPM, PERT and Gantt charts, estimating - current techniques and problems. Project management: staffing project teams, working in teams, team dynamics. Project control: feedback of resources used, measuring progress, ways of rescheduling, reorganising to achieve project deadlines. Automated project management tools.

Assessment Examination (2 hours): 60% - Practical work: 40%
