Objectives At the completion of this subject students should understand the principles of computer hardware and its design; and software; be familiar with the fundamentals of programming and have been introduced to the role of business information systems and tools such as spreadsheets and database management systems.

Synopsis This subject provides an introduction to the principles and general use of computer information systems for business applications. Topics covered in this subject include introduction to information systems, computer hardware and software, overview of programming and computer languages, database management, use of microcomputer application software for business data processing including spreadsheets and database management systems.

Assessment Assignments: 40% - Examination (2 hours): 60% - Students must pass the examination in order to pass the subject.
