Objectives The objective of this course is to provide the student with the best possible education in the use of advanced decision making and quantitative modelling techniques for the solution of real problems in health care. Upon completion of this course the student should be competent in analysing the main business problems faced by modern health care systems; the student should also appreciate the importance of quantitative modelling and decision making for solving business problems in modern health care systems. The student should be proficient in the analysis of specific quantitative modelling and decision-making techniques appropriate for health care and understand the origins underlying corresponding techniques.
Synopsis This subject will provide a wide variety of problematic business issues in modern health care, including those in health care systems design and planning, management of operations in health care, medical management and health insurance modelling. Each problem will be introduced and then analysed from the quantitative modelling and decision-making perspective. Quantitative modelling and decision-making techniques used in this subject will be selected from the area of computer-based operations research.
Assessment Examination (2 hours): 70% - Project: 30%: Students must pass the examination in order to pass the subject
