Objectives To understand various manufacturing
processes and appreciate the economics, limitations and the choice of
process.
Synopsis Casting: sand, gravity pressure, precision and centrifugal
castings. Mechanical working: forging, rolling, extrusion, drawing. Sheet metal
working: shearing, roll forming, deep drawing, spinning and explosive forming.
Powder metallurgy. Machining processes: drilling, turning, milling, CNC, FMS,
cutting tools, cutting, grinding, metrology and surface texture measurement.
Testing and inspection: destructive and non-destructive testing.
Assessment Examination (3 hours): 70% · Assignments and test: 30%
