Fluid mechanics

Objectives To build on the student's understanding of fluid mechanics with particular emphasis given to the theoretical representation of fluid flow.

Synopsis Translation and rotation of fluid masses. Pi theorem and non-dimensional quantities. Mathematical representation of fluid motion, the Navier-Stokes equations. Drag and lift, drag of bluff and streamlined bodies, lift and circulation, boundary layers. Reynolds stresses, flow in pipes and ducts.

Assessment Examination (3 hours): 70% · Assignments, test: 30%
