Objectives To develop understanding of mathematical tools associated with feedback control systems (root locus, frequency response, compensation). To develop understanding of control theory as the link between physical systems and their mathematical models. To become familiar with advanced control techniques (optimal control and adaptive control, neural net controllers, fuzzy logic controllers).

Synopsis Strategies for control. Improving system response. Steady-state errors in automatic control systems. Controllers and compensators. Open-loop frequency response and root locus techniques and their use in correcting system behaviour. Stability, controllability and observability of proposed control system. Digital simulation (Vissim). Introduction to intelligent control and digital control technology.
