Objectives To provide students with the opportunity to engage in extended research and development projects either as a researcher or in a consultative capacity to industry. The students will become conversant with theory and mathematical modelling so that they can analyse a real problem sensibly and adopt methods to solve the problem. To provide students with the experience of working in small teams focussed towards completing authentic design projects.
Synopsis One of either a design study drawn from local industry or a project arising within the department. The subject requires the preparation of an interim report and a minor thesis as well as an oral presentation at a seminar. All staff are engaged in supervising individual or small groups of students.
Assessment Interim report: 15% · Seminar presentation: 15% · Written thesis: 70%
