Objectives The student is expected to acquire knowledge and understanding of the principles of communications including computer networks; to develop skills in analysing a given system; and to develop an interest in design and experimentation as part of a group activity.

Synopsis This subject provides an overview of communication components, systems and techniques. Topics covered will include information theory, information transmission and acquisition systems, noise and error control, transmitters and receivers, transmission and projection, analog and digital systems, telephone systems and switching techniques.
