Objectives The student is expected to gain an appreciation of the factors involved in the transmission and distribution of electrical energy; acquire knowledge of the modelling of power system components for performance assessment; appreciate the philosophy and application of protection systems; become proficient in the application of numerical techniques to analyse both normal and abnormal conditions of operation.
Synopsis Transmission line parameters, modelling and performance calculations, load flow analysis, system representation and symmetrical faults, symmetrical components and asymmetrical faults, basic system protection, transient stability studies.
