Objectives To gain an understanding of the use of some applications of engineering and physical science in medicine and biology.

Synopsis The subject deals with a selection of areas where engineering and physical science find application in medicine and biology. Where material about human biological systems is needed to understand the engineering applications, this will be provided. Applications to be covered will include electrical phenomena in living tissues, natural and artificial neural networks, circulatory measurements, some examples of artificial organs, biomechanics, biomaterials, imaging and processing of biological products.

Assessment Examination (2 hours): 70% · Problem classes: 10% · Laboratory work and site visit reports: 20%
