Objectives The student is expected to develop a basis in and understanding of statistical inference and statistical process control.
Synopsis Ideas of population and sample, summary statistics, point and interval estimation. Probability modelling. Properties of the normal, binomial, hypergeometric exponential, gamma. Weibull, log normal and Poisson distribution. Tests for normality using MINITAB. Statistical inference including concepts of hypothesis testing and confidence intervals. Concepts of hypothesis test. Test about the mean of one, two and more than two independent populations. Test of assumptions for tests. Test equality of two dependent populations. Control charts for attributes and for variables. Tolerance limits. Process capability. Control charting. Use of computer software such as MINITAB.
