Objectives To obtain an understanding of the fundamental principles of signal processing with particular reference to analogue filtering and techniques in DSP; the fundamental principles and theorems of DSP and their application to real time problems. To gain knowledge of the relationship between analogue and digital systems; the mathematical techniques required in analogue and digital signal processing; the practical limitations of sampled systems; practical applications of signal processing; the latest developments in signal processing design and hardware; practical implementations in hardware.

Synopsis Analogue filter design and implementation. Signal processing: digital systems, frequency response, filters, z-transforms, DFT, FFT. Recursive, non recursive and adaptive filter design, applications using the TMS320 family processors.

Assessment Examination (3 hours): 60% · Practical work and laboratory work: 40%
