Objectives To give the student an understanding of the principles of and physical constraints on carrier-based transmission of information.

Synopsis Fourier analysis and spectra: analogue modulation; various forms of amplitude and angle modulation and demodulation. Digital modulation and demodulation. Noise: origin and types of noise in electronic systems. Performance of various modulation/demodulation schemes in noisy environments. Multiplex schemes.

Assessment Examination (2 hours): 60% · Laboratory work and assignments: 40%
