D L Morgan

3 points · 36 hours of lectures, seminars and practical work · Second semester · Clayton · Prerequisites: Level 3 of BSc(Physiology)/BE substantially complete

Objectives The student is expected to acquire a detailed understanding of the genesis of a range of medical signals and the processes used to provide diagnostically useful information from these signals.

Synopsis The theory behind medical signal processing. The design of medical signal processing equipment used to convert measured signals into diagnostically useful information. Specific medical signals including ECG, EEG, EMG, evoked responses, speech, intracellular and extracellular potential recordings, blood flow, blood pressure, and respiratory signals.

Assessment Examination (2 hours): 50% · Practical work: 15% · Design assignment: 35%
