Offered subject to sufficient enrolment
3 points · 16 lectures and 9 laboratory hours · Second semester · Clayton · Prerequisites: Level 3 substantially complete
Objectives The student is expected to develop a fundamental understanding of photonic circuits and their electrical interpretation, the effects of optical resonance, interference, differential interference, optical delay, tapping and gain, the analysis and synthesis of optical circuits and processors using electrical equivalents, graphical representation and Mason's rule, and develop the ability to design optical lowpass filters and equalisers using resonators and transversal filters.
Synopsis Photonic circuits and their electrical equivalents; signal processing algorithms for optical processors; z-domain analysis and synthesis of optical filters, equalisers, transversal filters, resonators and interferometers; photonic signal processors including integrators, differentiators and algebraic processors; optical systolic processors.
