Objectives The student is expected to develop a knowledge and understanding of the fundamental principles of signal processing.
Synopsis Signal theory: moment expansions; differentiators, integrators and spectrum analysers; representation of bandpass signals; group delay and phase delay; matched filters and interpolation. Fourier analysis of discrete-time signals: periodic waveforms and Fourier series; the discrete-time Fourier transform; the discrete Fourier transform; the fast Fourier transform and its applications to signal processing. Specification of network functions: approximation of ideal amplitude characteristics; Butterworth and Chebyshev responses; highpass and bandpass transformation; ladder networks.
