Modelling and computing

Objectives The student is expected to acquire a basic knowledge and understanding of the use of computer software and programming in data analysis and modelling.

Synopsis Topics covered will include use of Excel and Visual Basic, functions and procedures, graphical user interface controls, use and limitations of time series data, operation of software such as Excel and Visual Basic, construction of application programs with these packages, data analysis, statistical issues related to goodness of fit of a model to data (links with maths).

Assessment Examination (2 hour): 50% · Practical/project work: 50%
