Objectives The student is expected to develop an appreciation of the interdependence of mineral processing operations with upstream and downstream operations; knowledge of the major mineral separation techniques and relevant unit operations used in mineral processing; an appreciation of the methods used to characterise material in process streams; an understanding of the types of models used to predict the performance of the major unit operations; and the ability to predict and optimise plant performance using standard models of unit operations.

Synopsis Sampling of ore-bodies and process streams, cut-off grades, evaluation of separation processes, froth flotation, gravity and other separations, simple model of a concentrator.

Assessment Examinations: 60% · Assignments: 40%
