This subject introduces public policy and the public policy process with particular reference to the Australian context. It includes theories of public policy, models of decision-making, methods of evaluation and implementation. Case studies in Australian public policy will be analysed within this course. On completion of this subject students should understand the environment in which public policy is shaped within the Australian context; recognise models of decision-making within bureaucracy; be able to assess the different theories of public policy process as they apply to the Australian environment; be able to appraise the contribution of different individuals and institutions in the processes of public policy.
