There will be no intake into this course on Clayton campus after 1998.
At the request of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia, the Department of Accounting and Finance developed a graduate diploma which serves as a conversion course for those without tertiary qualifications in accounting. Students enrolling in the course are not required to be employed by a firm of chartered accountants.

Applicants for the course must have qualified for a pass degree or an equivalent qualification from a recognised tertiary institution.

Duration

The Graduate Diploma in Accounting may be completed in three semesters of full-time study or six semesters of part-time study. However, in practice, it usually takes full-time students four semesters and part-time students eight semesters to complete the course owing to timetabling constraints.

This course is offered on-campus at the Clayton campus.

Credit for work done previously

Candidates may be eligible for a maximum of six credit exemptions for subjects considered to be equivalent to particular requirements in the course of study. Please refer to the course director for further details.

Professional recognition

This course enables graduates, who have completed degrees in disciplines other than accounting, to become academically qualified to enter the professional year program of The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia and the CPA program of the Australian Society of Certified Practising Accountants.

Progression to further studies

Students who attain the required standard may be permitted to transfer to the Master of Professional Accounting.
Students should note that the Graduate Diploma in Accounting is also offered at the Caulfield and Gippsland campuses. However, the structure of the various programs may differ in content.
