Objectives On completion of this subject students should be able to recognise the legal rights and obligations of those involved in key areas of business; understand legal concepts underlying business decisions, transactions and relationships; apply a legal perspective to assist in business decision-making; communicate effectively with those in the legal system with respect to commonly encountered business situations.

Synopsis An introduction to legal studies and to the legal system of Australia with special emphasis on commercial aspects. The law of tort and crime as they affect business and the professional are introduced, and the law of contract, consumer law, restrictive trade practices, partnership, trusts and insurance are studied in the business context.

Assessment Written (2500 words): 30% · Class presentation: 10% · Examination (3.5 hours - includes 0.5 hours of reading and note taking): 60%
