Objectives On completion of this subject students should have an awareness of the issues, concepts and practices of managing a retail operation and an understanding of the retail industry; the retail industry's structure, size, dynamics; store location, presentation, promotion, operation; merchandise buying, planning, control; formulation and implementation of retail strategies.
Synopsis This subject aims to provide students with an understanding of the management of retail organisations, the application of technology in retail organisations and the application of retail strategic and financial planning. It is anticipated that students will gain an awareness of the issues, problems and practices involved in managing a retail operation; an appreciation of the role of the retailing industry in distribution, its structure and its dynamics; an understanding of retail merchandise, planning, buying and control; an understanding of retail store location, layout, presentation and management; an understanding of current theories and techniques used in the formulation and implementation of retail business strategy.
