Industrial relations and human resource management at the workplace

Objectives On completion of this subject students should understand the current key policy issues and debates on industrial relations and human resource management at the workplace; be aware of changes taking place in the workplace and of the factors driving these changes.

Synopsis The subject provides a study of the interconnection of the functions of industrial relations, and human resources specialists at the workplace and their changing roles in the light of the greater emphasis now accorded to workplace industrial relations and reform. It includes studies of the impact of changing technology, work organisation, skill formation, the growth of new forms of employment, performance appraisal and reward systems.

Assessment Written (assignments 4000 words): 40% · Take-home examination: 60%
