Objectives On completion of this subject students will understand how to plan the future of the organisation in its competitive environment from the viewpoint of the chief executive. Students will learn analytical skills necessary for developing and implementing strategies that will enable the organisation to achieve competitive advantage.

Synopsis This is a capstone subject, drawing together the management skills already studied to analyse the firm's competitive performance and focus the firm's resources to achieve long-run success. It requires an integration of the various functional skills such as finance and marketing to enable an analysis of the firm's competitive environment. This includes identification and evaluation of the firm's competitive position, its markets, government policies, social issues, emerging trends and key factors which are critical for success in its environment. Final steps include the crafting of an appropriate strategy and ensuring that strategy is appropriately supported by structure, controls and rewards.

Assessment Six individual written case reports (500 words): 10% each · Group research report (2500 words): 40%
