Objectives On completion of this subject students are expected to be aware of the issues relating to the global-local dilemma confronting international managers; have an understanding of the impact of these issues on the management functions of planning, organising, leading and controlling in the international enterprise; have an understanding of the theoretical and conceptual frameworks underlying particular issues in international management; and, be able to critically analyse the substantive and explanatory power of the relevant theoretical and conceptual frameworks in relation to international management issues.

Synopsis Issues included for study are the impact of culture on management and the convergence-divergence debate; centralisation versus decentralisation of decision making; standardisation versus differentiation of management activities; control versus delegation; and, competition versus partnership: new international organisation forms and implications for management.

Assessment Student research paper (3500 words): 40% · Article review: 10% · Syndicate case study report (4500 words): 50%
