Managing conflict

Objectives: On successful completion of this subject students will be able to manage conflict through effective communication in business and professional environments; apply problem-solving techniques to situations arising in business and the professions; have an understanding of theories and processes of negotiation; have an appreciation of alternative dispute resolution techniques; analyse and develop dispute resolution systems.

Synopsis This subject aims to provide students with an understanding of how to manage conflict in a range of business and professional contexts. Students will study a variety of theories and processes that will enhance their skills in avoiding and resolving disputes both within and between organisations.

Assessment: Class exercises and role plays: 30% · Case study (3000 words): 30% · Examination (2 hours): 40%
