Objectives On completion of this subject students should be in a position to begin active research towards a master's degree or PhD by research.

Synopsis This subject consists of a subject of study in a special field of economics in which no formal subject is available. In such a subject, access to which is normally open only to students who have previously done other work with a staff member concerned, the supervisor will prescribe a list of references, consult frequently with the student and set whatever written work and examination is deemed appropriate. Students interested in a reading subject of this type should first consult the head of the department.

Assessment Written (5000-word essay): 50% · Examination (3 hours): 50%
